Guangxi liegt ganz im Süden Chinas an der Grenze zu Vietnam. Die autonome Region der Zhuang-Minderheit ist berühmt für seine aussergewöhnliche Berglandschaft.

Guangxi is located in the far south of China bordering Vietnam. The autonomous region for the Zhuang minority is famous for the exceptional mountainous terrain.

Unser erstes Ziel in Guangxi ist die Kleinstadt Yangshuo. Die Landschaft erinnert uns stark an unseren Besuch in Xingyi in der Nachbarprovinz Guizhou.

Our first destination in Guangxi is the small town of Yangshuo. The scenery reminds us on our visit at Xingyi in the neighboring province Guizhou.

Es ist ganz schön steil. Dazu ist es heiss und feucht. Schwitzen ist angesagt.

It is quite steep. And hot and humid. Sweating is inevitable.

Es gibt nur wenige Leute die sich die Anstrengung antun, dafür wird man mit schöner Natur belohnt.

Only a few people submit themselves to the effort, but the beautiful nature is well worth it.

Unsere Reise geht weiter zu einem Besuch der Reis-Terrassen von Longji.

Our jourey continues with a visit to the rice terraces at Longji.

Über Jahrhunderte wurden diese Terrassen von den Yoa und Zhuang angelegt und bebaut.

Over centuries the Yao and Zhuang people have built and cultivated these terraces.

Jede mögliche Fläche wurde ausgeebnet und ans Bewässerungssystem angeschlossen.

Every possible piece of land has been leveled and connected to the irrigation system.

Für die Bewirtschaftung lassen sich keine Maschinen einsetzen.

Cultivating these fields is manual work.

Heute haben die Einnahmen aus dem Tourismus diejenigen aus der Landwirtschaft bei weitem überholt. Aber ohne das Weiterführen der aufwändigen Landwirtschaft gibt es auch keinen Tourismus.

Nowadays the income from tourism is much higher than from agricultur. But without continuing the work-intensiv agricultur there's no tourism either.

Die Stadt Guilin. Während den Dynastien der Ming und Qing die Hauptstadt von Guangxi, hat sie diesen Status an Nanning verloren.

The city of Guilin. During the dynasties of the Ming and the Qing the capital of Guangxi, she has lost this status to Nanning.

Der Hauptgrund für einen Besuch hier ist die zentrale Lage im touristisch interessanten Gebiet der Volksminderheiten der Zhuang und Yao.

The main reason to visit here is its funktion as a hub for travelling to the touristically interesting places of the minority people Zhuang and Yao.

Die Stadt hat viel Potential für Verbesserungen.

The city has a lot of potential for improvement.

Historische Gebäude kann man aber auch durch übermässige "Restauration" zerstören.

But historic buildings can be destroyed through unduly "restoration".

Aber Guilin hat natürlich auch seine schönen Seiten. Dank dem tropischen Klima gibt es ein üppiges Pflanzenwachstum. Guilin ist eine grüne Stadt.

But Guilin has it's beauty too. Because of the tropical climate there is a enormous plant growth. Guilin is a green city.
